 Service Ranger 

Full Time Position 
Worksite: White Star Park Operations Center 
Work Schedule: Generally - First Shift (7:30am-4:00pm) and Second Shift (3:30pm-12:00am)
                                    Weekends, holidays and additional hours as required
Reports To: Chief Ranger 

MINUMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS: An example of acceptable qualifications: Certified Peace Officer in the State of Ohio and completion of secondary education or equivalent (high school or GED) or any combination of training, education and work experience, which provides the skills, knowledge and abilities necessary to complete the described duties. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must be of good moral character, reputation, and financial responsibility with no conviction higher than a misdemeanor or of a crime involving turpitude. Preferred qualifications: one (1) year of law enforcement experience, preferably in a natural resource setting; Associates Degree in law enforcement, resource management, public administration, or related field. 

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must possess and maintain Ohio Peace Officer Training Certification.  Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record; must meet the requirements for being insured by the Park District’s insurance provider; must be LEADS certified or the ability to obtain LEADS certification within timeframe specified at time of appointment. 

EQUIPMENT OPERATEDThe following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive. Police vehicle and standard law enforcement equipment; bicycle; light truck with snow plow, pulling trailers; tractor; lawn mower; computer; computer software (e.g., data collection software, law enforcement software, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, facility management software, Internet web browser, electronic mail software, etc.); chain saw; skid steer; power tools; hand tools; ATV and UTV. 

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Uniformly enforces all Park District rules and regulations, laws of the State of Ohio, and the laws of the United States of America; exercises all the powers of police officers within and adjacent to the lands under the jurisdiction and control of the board or when acting as otherwise lawfully authorized; patrols park lands and adjacent properties by motor vehicle, bicycle, and on foot; assists and aids the public in the use of Park District lands and facilities; prepares, completes, and submits necessary forms and reports (e.g., uses data collection software to enter data electronically as required; etc.); maintains daily logs of patrol activities; appears in court to provide testimony, collect fees, and deposit fees; Leads the work of assigned full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff; recommends enhancements and needed changes to policies (e.g., ranger department standard operating procedures; ranger department forms, rules, and regulations; fee collection and handling; uniforms and equipment; employee and visitor safety policies and procedures; ranger staff training and development; etc.); assists with recordkeeping (e.g., law enforcement records, inspection and patrol logs, training records, OPOTA requirements, personnel related records, etc.).

    $13.00-$15.00 hourly

SEASONAL PARK WORKER

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT: An example of acceptable qualifications: Completion of secondary education. Experience or certified training in carpentry, electrical, masonry, heavy equipment operation, or other skilled trade or any combination of training, education and work experience, which provides the skills, knowledge and abilities necessary to complete the described duties preferred. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must be at least 18 years of age. 

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record; must meet the requirements for being insured by the Park District’s insurance provider.

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Performs skilled and unskilled labor on facilities, construction projects, capital projects, and all other maintenance related projects (e.g., operates power tools and hand tools; etc.); assists with maintenance repair projects including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and masonry projects; assists with vehicle maintenance and cleans facilities; operates light motorized equipment related to year round grounds keeping (e.g., tractor, cars, trucks, lawn mowers, plows, etc.); operates specialized equipment related to land management (e.g., mowing, burning, plowing, seeding, cutting, clearing, excavation, etc.); uses pulling trailers to haul debris; operates chain saw and skid steer as necessary to maintain park areas; assists with implementation of land management practices; helps with programs and events and assists the public as required; assists with logs and records regarding vehicle maintenance, projects, and equipment; uses computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to set up functions, enter data, and/or process information (e.g., uses electronic mail software to send and receive electronic mail as necessary; uses Microsoft Excel to develop and maintain spreadsheets as necessary; uses Microsoft Word to create and revise documents as necessary; uses an Internet web browser to research the cost of labor and materials for projects; etc.). Networks with other departments; initiates or suggests; plans to motivate workers to achieve goals; organizes equipment, tools, and supplies; Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance; Meets all job safety requirements and all safety standards that pertain to essential functions; Maintains confidentiality as appropriate under policy and applicable statutes.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Under immediate supervision of the Beach Manager, monitors activities in swimming areas to prevent accidents and provide assistance to patrons; cautions swimmers regarding unsafe areas, activities, and conditions; assists swimmers experiencing difficulties and administers first aid and/or CPR as necessary; contacts emergency medical personnel in case of serious injury; assists in facility and equipment maintenance and upkeep; legibly completes and files required forms and reports; provides excellent customer service. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT:  An example of acceptable qualifications: Basic math ability to accurately count and handle money or any combination of training, education and work experience, which provides the skills, knowledge and abilities necessary to complete the described duties. Must be able to read, speak, and understand the English language. Must be at least 15 years of age. 

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:  The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive. Lifesaving flotation devices; whistle; telephone; calculator, cash register, soda fountain, popcorn maker, microwave, ice maker, computer, printer. 

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: First aid, CPR, and Red Cross lifeguard certification obtained by the start of the beach season. Work permit it under 18 years of age.

Inspects facilities and equipment for cleanliness and condition; assists in facility and equipment maintenance and upkeep; cleans facilities, food preparation, and service equipment to maintain a safe and sanitary work area (e.g., properly disposes of trash; wipes counter tops; washes utensils; cleans appliances; sweeps and mops floors; cleans restrooms and changing rooms; etc.). Legibly completes and files required forms and reports; provides great customer service in a pleasant and professional manner at White Star Beach House during open hours (e.g., receives customers’ orders; operates soda fountain and ice maker to fill orders for soda; serves food and beverages requested by the customer; prepares bills for food and beverages in an accurate manner, using cash register or calculator; communicates to the customer the total cost of the customer’s order; accepts payment from customers for their orders and makes accurate change as necessary; secures cash as directed; etc.); performs minor food prep (e.g., operates popcorn maker to make popcorn; operates microwave to heat food; etc.). Maintains required licensure and certification. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance. GENERAL DESCRIPTION:Under immediate supervision of the Beach Manager, provides excellent customer service by serving food and drinks in exchange for payment for concessions; performs minor food prep; assists in day to day operational preparations; cleans and sanitizes work area and equipment, and facilities. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT: An example of acceptable qualifications: Basic math ability to accurately count and handle money or any combination of training, education and work experience, which provides the skills, knowledge and abilities necessary to complete the described duties. Must be able to read, speak, and understand the English language. Must be at least 15 years of age.

Assists in preparing for day to day operations (e.g., informs Beach Manager of inventory needs for concessions; stocks items as assigned; operates computer and printer as directed; etc.). Cleans work area, food preparation, and service equipment to maintain a safe and sanitary work area and facilities (e.g., properly disposes of trash; wipes counter tops; washes utensils; cleans appliances; sweeps and mops floors; etc.). Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance. Meets all job safety requirements and all safety standards that pertain to essential functions. Maintains confidentiality as appropriate under policy and applicable statutes.

INTERPRETIVE NATURALIST INTERN

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT: An example of acceptable qualifications: 
Experience and college coursework in Interpretation, Natural Resources, Outdoor Recreation, Resource Management, Environmental Sciences, Biology, or related field.  Proficient with social media, confident public speaker to all ages, good writing skills.  Able to create and present engaging programs.  Computer skills in Microsoft Office.   

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record; must meet the requirements for being insured by the Park District’s insurance provider, current first aid/CPR certification preferred.    

EQUIPMENT OPERATED: The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive. Vehicles, A/V equipment, computer and other office equipment, software, hand tools, and other programming equipment. 

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Works with Staff to plan, develop, and implement, programs and presentations associated with outdoor education, nature interpretation, environmental sciences, preservation, wise use of natural resources, historical/cultural education, the arts and related topics; Assists with the care and upkeep of program animals, Assist Research staff. 

Assists staff with school programming; Develops Nature Camp curriculum; Works with staff to create educational and informational displays; Assists with staffing of Nature Center, answers phones, and other duties as assigned.  Willingness to work with others in a team environment, professional manner with patrons/volunteers.  Assists with cleaning, customer service and clerical work.
