Shelley Wetland

County Road 292 and 177

York Township

Area closed to the public.  Open for scheduled program use only.

Acquired by donation in Dec 2007 and officially dedicated on Friday, June 20, 2008. The land was generously donated by Mr. and Mrs. James Shelley in honor of his parents, Paul & Kate Shelley. Local residents may remember this property as the place where Paul Shelley raised waterfowl. The wetland habitat was created when gravel was removed for construction of the Nickel Plate Railroad in the late 1800’s. The 17 acres provides an ideal location for wetland preservation and restoration, as well as an expansion of the Park District’s award winning environmental education program.
