Don W. Miller Memorial Park is the home of the Park District Administrative Offices. Donated by Black Swamp Conservancy, this 80-acre park is located on the Sandusky River adjacent to the Blue Banks. This portion of the Sandusky River is designated as a Scenic River by the State of Ohio. Criteria for scenic river designation include length, adjacent forest cover, biological characteristics, water quality, present use and natural conditions. This location allows for excellent fishing and birding opportunities as well as hiking trails.

Don W. Miller passed away in August of 2022 but his memory and legacy remains. That legacy will continue by the Sandusky County Park District’s “River Cliff Park” being renamed the “Don W. Miller Memorial Park” in his honor.

On Thursday, April 27th, 2023, the Fremont Rotary Club, in conjunction with the Sandusky County Park District, and the Miller Family, dedicated the roughly 80-acre park along the Sandusky River in Don W. Miller’s name and memory. The dedication took place at the Fremont Rotary Lodge at the newly named Don W. Miller Memorial Park. The family’s donation will help with the renovations of the Fremont Rotary Lodge which is one part of the “2 Projects, 1 Goal” Fremont Rotary Centennial.
In addition to his many philanthropic endeavors throughout the community, Don W. Miller had been instrumental in helping the Sandusky County Park District acquire and preserve natural areas behind the scenes in years past, including an expansion of White Star Park and supporting the funding of the Wilson Nature Center. “We are extremely grateful to the Miller Family for their support and proud to honor Don W. Miller, who did so much for conservation, preservation, and most especially for the Park District”, said Jim Fails, Park District Board President. Don W. Miller founded Miller Pipeline and Miller Cable Company, both incredibly successful companies. He also had a passion for the outdoors and conservation. This led him to purchase and preserve the historic Peninsular Farms property, also along the Sandusky River. Now, Don W. Miller Memorial Park will honor his memory and showcase conservation as well as connect people with nature. Laurie (Miller) Sistrunk, one of Don W. Miller’s four daughters said at the event, “I have had several Rotarians reach out to thank my sisters, (Debbie King, Barbara D’Angelo, and Donna Drake), our family, and me about our gift. We are proud to pay it
forward. We received a gift from our father and we are proud to pay it back to the community.” The family of Don W. Miller made a generous donation to the Fremont Rotary Foundation and Club, which will be utilized to renovate the Rotary Lodge at Don W. Miller Memorial Park. Those funds, along with $250,000 from the Fremont Rotary Club, $250,000 State Capital Budget, as well as other private donations, will help to ensure that the Rotary Lodge and Don W. Miller Memorial Park will be a premier destination for the community to enjoy nature, just as Don would have wanted.
