Shelly Wetlands Directions  Shelley Wetland Park History

This 17-acre, bowl-shaped wetland was created when gravel was removed for the construction of the New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railway, in the late 1800s. The railway soon came to be known as the Nickel Plate Railroad. This was due to an article in the Norwalk, Ohio Chronicle Newspaper that called it a "... double-track nickel-plated railroad" which referred to its grand prospects and large financial support. The property was donated by Mr. & Mrs. James Shelley in honor of his parents, Paul & Kate Shelley. This property is closed to the public and only open for scheduled program use.
